So there are “those” people out there (somewhere)…you know the ones—the ones who are naturally great gift-givers. Not just great…exceptionally amazing gift-givers who, with seemingly very little effort, manage to always show up with the most inexplicably perfect gift every time.
I am not one of those people; however, my mom was. And although I didn’t inherit this rare skill, she did succeed in teaching me that there is much more joy to be had giving gifts rather than receiving them. Don’t get me wrong…if you were to show up with so much as a $5 Starbucks gift card you would no doubt make my century…BUT I do love to give.
And luckily I happen to be married to someone who is genuinely appreciative of ANY gift he’s given. But on the rare occasion that he mentions something he wants, I’m pretty quick to jot it down–because I think everybody deals with the whole issue of “what do you get the guy who has everything?” (or wants nothing).
So here are a few Father’s Day gift ideas that are either currently on his list, or are things that I have gotten him over the years and have been wins. Hopefully these will, if nothing else, give you a few last-minute ideas. Psst! All of these are from Amazon, so as long as you have Prime, there is PLENTY of shopping time left.
For the dad all about business…Bluetooth wireless noise-cancelling headphones!
Maybe your husband travels a lot for work. Maybe he needs to listen to today’s TEDtalks podcast. Or maybe the only noise-cancelling he needs to do involves putting everyone else in the house on mute while he might perhaps get a few minutes of peace & quiet. These are the perfect thing to do any of the above.
For the bearded fella…beard oil!
My husband has always spent tons of time on his beard so I eventually asked him what he thought about beard conditioning. Well, he thought that meant basically shampooing and conditioning it in the shower…the end.
SO, I began doing some research about what would be the best concoction to use, and I actually began making his beard balm myself. I used a combo of natural oils (i.e. shea butter, jojoba, etc.) and essential oils that promote healthy skin and hair. But if you don’t have a lot of time to spend making it, this oil is a terrific alternative. And, added bonus, he says that the wooden comb that it comes with is outstanding.
For the reader…books! Duh.
I cannot recommend both of these enough. Period.
P.S. There is also a “Strong Fathers, Strong Sons”…just haven’t read that one.
For the chef…a waffle maker!
Seriously gang, what the heck is it with men and waffles?! My husband got this waffle maker for us a few Christmases ago, and waffles have become a Saturday morning staple in our home ever since. Back in my single life, I would have NEVER thought to go through such lengths just for breakfast…well actually, I still don’t…most mornings I’m ecstatic if I can just get a granola bar in each of our hands before we run out of the house.
So I thought the concept of mastering the perfect Belgian waffle was just something my husband was into. I totally didn’t know it was a THING until my dad, my own father, told me that all he wanted us to get him for Christmas was a waffle maker! What the heck is going ON?! Evidently THIS is the gift that will keep on giving, because they are both totally obsessed with this thing. So if you are at a total loss for what to get your husband or father, I’d say this one is a pretty safe bet. You’re welcome.
Honestly, you can.not.fail here guys. If you are coming up empty on what to get him this Father’s Day, go with Clint, hands down. ANYthing Clint. Movies will always work, but once you have all of those (like us) start with the coffee mugs, the movie posters, the autographed pictures and even the poncho—yes, we even have the poncho. And yes, he wears it.
Trust me on this one…Clint is always a hit.
