This right here was a WEDDING! Without a doubt there are guests who left the reception feeling as if they just left the event of the year (and it was only April).
Before the festivities officially began, Alicia, Geoff and I snuck off for their First Look. I first took Geoff over to one of the gardens that was a little farther away from where the ceremony would take place. We were exchanging our concerns about the cloudy skies, while Alicia secretly walked down the pathway behind Geoff.
My heart was beating nearly out of my chest as I’m desperately trying to keep him engaged so he doesn’t turn around and see her before she’s totally ready, but at the same time wanting to yell “Oh my goodness, she’s beautiful! Look at her!”
But I’ll tell you, it was SUCH a special moment when she made her way down to where we were–she walked up behind him, paused for a quick “here we go” breath, and touched him on the arm. When he finally was free to turn around and lay his eyes on her, the joy was surely tangible. They hugged and kissed and admired with purely happy eyes how stunning this person was that they were each about to marry.
I really love the First Look experience. It allows the bride and groom a private moment together to share those immense initial emotions with only each other, instead of in front of all of the guests at the ceremony.
And their First Look was one for the books.
An excited energy could easily be felt all day. The venue was the Lace House on the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion grounds, and we had the entire property to ourselves…and the guests were encouraged to take full advantage.
They began arriving early so that they could spend some time taking in the beauty of this historic property. Family and friends could be spotted watching the main fountain, grabbing a seat on a bench under the shade trees, taking selfies in the garden with the ivy-covered walls, or just strolling the pathways of all the lush green gardens.
The ceremony was outstandingly unique to this couple. Complete with a groom-daughter secret handshake, some belly laughs, and a best friend as the officiant.
After capturing a few photos at the conclusion of the ceremony, Alicia made it clear what it was then time for…the PARTY!! Drinks were flowing, cigars were being lit, and shoes were being kicked off. The dance floor did.not.disappoint—old and young were out there all night long. There were beards, rugby socks, a party train, solo dances, and then there was Uncle David. That guy BROUGHT the party, and will remain a superstar in my book until the end of time. Period.
The night ended with a group Journey serenade, sparkler exit and hugs all around. I could not have planned a more perfect celebration for this endearing couple. Alicia, Geoff, Ally and Aimee have truly been purposely placed together on this earth, and I’m so excited to see them grow as an awesome, funny, genuine, caring family forever.
The couple who SLAYS air guitar together, stays together.
Cheers to you Geoff & Alicia!
